These art movements are supposed to use humor and (as seen in the links above) a mildly to severely deranged collective image of the human being.
silav's drawings of old family photo's exemplify this...
CONTrast
One thing that drew me to silav was his utilization of contrast between white and a myriad of bright and psychedelic colors.(image 4 in the slide show below is the one that first grabbed me.)
ART MANIFESTO ---
At certain points in history when all of the rules have been broken for an era, it becomes necessary to construct a new set of rules which will not themselves be broken for a while. In this technology driven time within an information culture, trouble still arises when attempting to define art. Ross Miller has taken it upon himself to set forth a fair definition of art and reasoning for the existence of said art.
Meaning in the creation of art is unessential. If meaning can be projected onto art after completion, regardless of original intent or lack thereof, all is justified; this is similar to literature when the reader feels fulfilled even from reading something without meaning put in by the writer (i.e. Twilight – zing!) It should be noted that anyone can create anything, so any person who creates something that might be considered ‘art’ definitely did so.
Art must have a visual element. It must be visually tangible, otherwise it is music, or food, or wind, or some other non-art. Art is not constrained to just the visual, but must incorporate the visual. Not everything incorporating the visual is art, for example:
An advertisement for a product incorporating images is not art; the images may be art if taken outside of the context of the advertisement.
For further clarifications on this and other mix-ups, see “Ross Miller’s guide to Distinguishing Art” *Not Real
The value of a work should be determined by the unbiased public, that is – A Public which acts under no influence of suggestion from friend, foe or any art publications be they printed or blogged. Art valued under such a system should have its value re-established under the aforementioned lenses. Popularity does not convey quality and should not convey value.
